Learn about our Editorial Process Updated on October 08, 2017 This Novena to St. Anthony Mary Claret, a 19th-century Spanish priest and missionary, is very popular. Through his apostolic works, including the founding of the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (the Claretians), St. Anthony Mary Claret brought about many conversions in a time of increasing irreligion. Since the saint himself received many miraculous cures during his lifetime (including the immediate healing of a gaping wound in his side after he prayed to the Blessed Virgin), it is not surprising that, after his death, novenas directed to St. Anthony Mary Claret have been associated with physical healing. This novena is appropriate to pray for our own intention or for the intention of another, and for the healing of soul as well as body. If you are praying it for someone else, replace "me" in "Look with pity on me" with the name of the person. Novena to St. Anthony Mary Claret St. Anthony Mary Claret, during your life on earth you often comforted the afflicted and showed such tender love and compassion for the sick and sinful. Intercede for me now that you rejoice in the reward of your virtues in heavenly glory. Look with pity on me [or on the person afflicted with illness or whose conversion is desired] and grant my prayer, if such be the will of God. Make my troubles your own. Speak a word for me to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to obtain by her powerful intercession the grace I yearn for so ardently, and a blessing to strengthen me during life, assist me at the hour of death, and lead me to a happy eternity. Amen. Cite this Article Format mla apa chicago Your Citation Richert, Scott P. "A Novena to St. Anthony Mary Claret."
