There are several treatments for insomnia, including lifestyle changes and medication, but a person of faith shouldn't overlook praying for a miracle, an intercession by God or his angels to ease a bad case of sleeplessness. First, here's some information on the sleep disorder. There are two types of insomnia: Primary insomnia: Having sleep problems not directly associated with another health condition or problem. Secondary insomnia: Having sleep problems because of: Another health condition (for example, asthma, depression, arthritis, cancer, or heartburn)PainMedicationA substance the sufferer is using (such as alcohol) Of these types, you might have acute insomnia, caused by: Significant life stress (job loss or change, the death of a loved one, divorce, moving)IllnessEmotional or physical discomfortEnvironmental factors such as noise, light, or extreme temperatures that interfere with sleepMedications (those used to treat colds, allergies, depression, high blood pressure, and asthma, for example)Interferences in normal sleep schedule (jet lag or switching from a day to night shift, for example) Or you might have chronic insomnia, caused by: Depression and/or anxietyChronic stressNighttime pain or discomfort If lifestyle adjustments and medications aren't working or don't interest you, you might need a miracle to overcome your insomnia. Powerful prayers, those that you pray with deep faith, can help you sleep if you believe that God can perform miracles and you invite God or his angels to do so for you. Here's an example of how to pray for sound, relaxing sleep: "Dear God: I'm having so much trouble sleeping that I'm tired and stressed a lot. I don't have the energy to function well with all I have to do each day when I'm dealing with this insomnia. I can't experience the peace you want for me when I can't get to sleep and renew my body, mind, and spirit. I need your help to get the sleep I need every night. You know all the methods I've tried to get to sleep that haven't worked so far for me. [Mention whatever you've tried: white noise, eye masks, sleeping pills, etc.] Please give me the wisdom to discover what's really causing my insomnia so I'll know how best to treat it. "As I prepare for sleep, please relax my body, send me thoughts that will quiet and calm my mind, and reassure my spirit that you and your angels are watching over me. Please send Archangel Gabriel into my dreams with messages that will help me become healthier overall. Help me to remember to pray about whatever is worrying me when I can't sleep. Give me the faith I need to trust that you will intervene in any situation I present to you in prayer. Thank you for always being present with me, and for loving me unconditionally and completely. Knowing that, I can confidently rest in a relationship with you. Amen."
