Learn about our Editorial Process Updated on April 27, 2019 The Historical Books record the events of Israel's history, beginning with the book of Joshua and the nation's entry into the Promised Land until the time of its return from exile some 1,000 years later. After Joshua, the history books take us through Israel's ups and downs under Judges, its transition to kingship, the division of the nation and its life as two rival kingdoms (Israel and Judah), the moral decline and exile of both kingdoms, the period of captivity, and finally, the nation's return from exile. The Historical Books cover almost an entire millennium of Israel's history. As we read these pages of the Bible, we relive incredible stories and meet fascinating leaders, prophets, heroes and villains. Through their real-life adventures, some of failure and some of victory, we identify personally with these characters and learn valuable lessons from their lives.
