There are at least nine well-known English-language news sources for current information on the life, politics, and culture of Israel. The newspaper itself was preceded by The Palestine Post, founded in 1932, and the name changed in 1950 to The Jerusalem Post. Although the newspaper was once regarded as left wing, it went right in the 1980s, and the current editor is attempting a centrist position on Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world at large. The site also features countless blogs by major players from the international Jewish community. 03 of 09 Ha'aretz Hmbr/WikiCommons Ha'aretz (Hadashot Ha'aretz or חדשות הארץ or "News of the Land of Israel") is an independent daily newspaper with a broadly liberal outlook both on domestic issues and international affairs. Ha'aretz began publishing as a British-sponsored newspaper in 1918 in both English and Hebrew, making it the country's longest-running newspaper. Today, both English and Hebrew editions are available online. 04 of 09 JTA.org Israel News Online JTA (Jewish Telegraph Agency) is an international news and wire service that provides up-to-the-minute reports, analysis pieces and features on events and issues of concern to the Jewish people and Israel-specific news. The news outlet is a not-for-profit corporation that prides itself on being unaffiliated and not leaning in any particular direction. “We respect the many Jewish and Israel advocacy organizations out there, but JTA has a different mission — to provide readers and clients with balanced and dependable reporting,” wrote JTA editor-in-chief and CEO and publisher Ami Eden. JTA was originally founded in 1917 in The Hague. The main English-language website has text-based, newspaper-style articles. The pro-Israel, non-governmental media watchdog organization has affiliates in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Italy, and Brazil. According to HonestReporting, the organization monitors the news for bias, inaccuracy, or other breach of journalistic standards in coverage of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It also facilitates accurate reporting for foreign journalists covering the region.
