Top Christian and Gospel Songs for Father's Day

Every year, on the third Sunday in June, we honor our earthly dads by celebrating Father's Day. First celebrated in July of 1908 at a local church, the day was a memorial tribute to the 362 men who had died in an explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah, West Virginia the previous December.

One year later, Sonora Smart Dodd, a Spokane, Washington woman who had been raised by her widowed father, started a campaign with area churches and government officials to set aside a day to honor dads. The state of Washington celebrated the nation's first statewide Father’s Day on July 19, 1910. It took another 62 years for the day to become a national holiday in the U.S.

Seventy-two countries worldwide celebrate dad's on June's third Sunday with 53 other countries celebrating the day at other times of the year.

While God is our Heavenly Father, He has given us earthly dads to love, cherish, protect and teach us. These songs help say "Thank You" for those gifts.

"Faithful Father" - Twila Paris

Since 1980, Twila Paris has been one of CCM's most beloved female vocalists as is evidenced by her being named the Dove Female Vocalist of the Year three years in a row.

Her song, "Faithful Father," never had the popularity that "Faithful Friend" (with Steven Curtis Chapman) did, but it's just as beautiful nonetheless.
