Bible Verses on Worship

When we worship, we show love to God. We give back to him honor and respect, and worship becomes an outward expression of how much God means to us.  Here are some Bible verses that remind us of the importance of worship in our relationship with God:

Worship as a Sacrifice

Worship of the spirit means a little bit of sacrifice. Whether it’s giving up something to show God He means something to you, it’s a spiritual worship that matters most.  We give up time to God when we choose to pray or read our Bibles instead of watching TV or texting our friends. We give our bodies to him when we do service for others.  We give our minds to him when we study His Word or help others learn more about Him.

Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. (NIV)

Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (NIV)

Galatians 1:10
I am not trying to please people. I want to please God. Do you think I am trying to please people? If I were doing that, I would not be a servant of Christ. (CEV)

Matthew 10:37
If you love your father or mother or even your sons and daughters more than me, you are not fit to be my disciples. (CEV)

Matthew 16:24

A Way to Experience God

God is truth.  God is light. God is in everything and He is everything.  It’s a hefty concept, but when we see His beauty, we find that same beauty in things around us.  He surrounds us in love and grace, and suddenly life, even in its darker moments, becomes something to behold and cherish.

John 4:23
But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. (NASB)

For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst. (NASB)

Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.” (NLT)

Romans 5:8
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (ESV)

Galatians 1:12
For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. (ESV)

Worship Opens Us Up to the Truth

It’s hard sometimes to see God’s truth, and worship opens us up to His truth in new ways.  Sometimes it comes through a song or a Bible verse.  Sometimes it comes in just reveling in Him through prayer.  Worshiping God is a way we speak to Him and a way for him to reveal Himself to us.

1 Corinthians 14:26-28
How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. (NKJV)

John 4:24
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. (NIV)

John 17:17
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. (NIV)

Matthew 4:10
Jesus answered, “Go away Satan! The Scriptures say: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” (CEV)

Exodus 20:5
Don’t bow down and worship idols. I am the Lord your God, and I demand all your love. If you reject me, I will punish your families for three or four generations. (CEV)

1 Corinthians 1:24
But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (NKJV)

Colossians 3:16
Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other. With thankful hearts, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. (CEV)
