Learn about our Editorial Process Updated on January 11, 2019 Rejection is something every person deals with at some point in his or her life. It can be painful and harsh, and it can stay with us for a long time. However, it’s a part of life we just need to work through. Sometimes we come out better on the other side of rejection than we would have been if we had gotten it. As scripture reminds us, God will be there for us to ease the sting of rejection. Rejection is Part of Life Unfortunately, rejection is something none of us can really avoid; it’s probably going to happen to us at some point. The Bible reminds us that it happens to everyone, including Jesus. John 15:18If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. (NIV) Psalm 27:10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. (NLT) Psalm 41:7All who hate me whisper about me, imagining the worst. (NLT) Psalm 118:22The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone. (NLT) Isaiah 53:3He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, “He is a nobody!” (CEV) John 1:11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. (NIV) John 15:25But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason. (NIV) 1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (NKJV) 1 Corinthians 15:26The last enemy to be destroyed is death. (ESV) Leaning on God Rejection hurts. It may be good for us in the long run, but that doesn’t mean we don’t feel its sting when it happens. God is always there for us when we’re hurting, and the Bible reminds us that He is the salve when we feel pain. Psalm 34:17-20When his people pray for help, he listens and rescues them from their troubles. The Lord is there to rescue all who are discouraged and have given up hope. The Lord’s people may suffer a lot, but he will always bring them safely through. Not one of their bones will ever be broken. (CEV) Romans 15:13I pray that God, who gives hope, will bless you with complete happiness and peace because of your faith. And may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope. (CEV) James 2:13Because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (NIV) Psalm 37:4Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (ESV) Psalm 94:14For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage. (ESV) 1 Peter 2:4You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. (NLT) 1 Peter 5:7Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (NLT) 2 Corinthians 12:9But he replied, “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So if Christ keeps giving me his power, I will gladly brag about how weak I am. (CEV) Romans 8:1If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won’t be punished. (CEV) Deuteronomy 14:2You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.
